RHAD with Niall Savage Architects
This house was designed as a major renovation and addition to an existing home that already had a modern style. It is mostly characterized by a covered wraparound deck that wraps the entire facade of the home. The lower level has a new front entry "glass box" and foyer with plenty of storage. The addition to the lower level houses a one-car garage. Taking you to the upper floor is a tensioned staircase, with each stair tread having a unique "ping" from the cables hidden within. The upper floor has an open kitchen where no appliances are seen - the clients' requirement. Instead the kitchen appears as a beautiful piece of walnut furniture with large windows overlooking the beautiful backyard gardens that are the clients' pride. The only kitchen appliance is a sleek induction cooktop with motorized downdraft fan that disappears with the flick of a switch. All other appliances (refrigerator, wall ovens, built-in microwave, built-in espresso maker, and additional sink) are tucked away in a large all-stainless steel pantry that has been lovingly dubbed "the walk-in appliance". A master bedroom suite with walk-in closet and full bathroom was added to the upper floor of the addition.
