Greg Murphy

Greg offers a rare combination of skills to the field of architecture, blending a Master Carpenter’s deep understanding of physical construction with an honours-educated technologist’s design precision. Born in Halifax into a military family, Greg spent his youth moving across Canada and internationally—including formative years in Australia and Germany, as well as a memorable stint working in the Canadian High Arctic at age 19. This early exposure to diverse global landscapes and extreme environments helped shape his resilient, adaptable approach to building design.

His career began on-site at age 18, working as an apprentice carpenter in the Ottawa area. To formally back his practical knowledge, he completed trade school at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) in Halifax. After graduating from NSCC, he relocated to the Blue Mountain area of southern Ontario, where he spent nearly 25 years as a contractor and Master Carpenter. Driven to fulfill a lifelong dream to design, he made the decision to return to post-secondary education later in his career, enrolling in the Architectural Technology program at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, where he graduated with honours.

Following graduation from Georgian College, Greg established his own Architectural Design firm based out of Clarksburg, Ontario, operating within the scenic Blue Mountain region of southwestern Ontario for over a decade. Drawn by a deep desire to return to the ocean and be near his large, extended East Coast family, he relocated home to Nova Scotia in 2021. He has spent the last five years as a key member of the senior leadership team at RHAD. As a Certified Engineering Technologist registered with TechNova, Greg operates with the multi-faceted title of Senior Architectural Technologist, Architectural Designer, and Project Manager. His professional portfolio balances high-end residential mastery with complex, civic and public spaces. Among his signature achievements is the ongoing development of Project X, a premier residential estate project situated on the stunning shores of the Bras D'or Lakes in Cape Breton. In the public sphere, he co-directed the development of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic Boat School alongside the firm's Principal Architect, creating a landmark public building situated right on the bustling Halifax Harbour Boardwalk. He also lent his technical management expertise to the Treehouse Co-housing Cooperative, an innovative, collaborative multi-unit housing development in Bridgewater.
